Rosemary Austen



Rosemary is an exceptional optometrist who has worked as a Senior Research Optometrist at the Cornea and Contact Lens Research Unit, UNSW. In this capacity, she worked with scientists from Australia, the USA and Switzerland. Rosemary has also lived in Zimbabwe where she was Consultant Optometrist to the Zimbabwean Diabetic Association and participated in the Vision Aid Abroad program, with clinics in Kenya and Malawi.

Rosemary also had the opportunity to spend some time at the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India exposing Rosemary to a broad spectrum of eye conditions that she may never, otherwise, have experienced. Rosemary participates in the North West Optometry Program, which takes services into the Pilbara, the East and West Kimberley. To this end, she will be running clinics out of Fitzroy Crossing in November this year. Rosemary’s other main interest is music.

Rosemary has a degree in music, majoring in composition. A number of her works being recorded by Classic FM radio, with performances in Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart. One piece was selected for performance at a music conference in Idaho, USA. Rosemary received a number of awards from Arts Tasmania to support her work.
